Hawaiian Monarch Review: A Penthouse Condo in Waikiki for Groups & Families

Ocean View from Hawaiian Monarch

Finding a 2-bedroom condo in Waikiki is harder than most people expect.
Studios and one-bedroom units are plentiful, but options with two or more bedrooms are far harder to find.
Hawaiian Monarch is one option worth considering.

This review covers what the building offers, who it suits, and what to expect before you book.

What Hawaiian Monarch actually is

Hawaiian Monarch is a residential condominium building at 444 Niu St, at the entrance to Waikiki.
The building has a range of unit types — from studios on the lower floors to 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom penthouses on the upper levels.
These are privately owned condominiums, not hotel rooms — there’s no front desk, no daily housekeeping, and no concierge service.
The experience is more residential than resort.

What the penthouse units are like

This section is based on the renovated 2-bedroom penthouse on the 43rd floor.

Step inside and the unit opens up — corner windows on two sides flood the space with light, and the ocean sits in the frame beyond Waikiki’s skyline. At 1,200 square feet, there’s room to actually spread out.

The interior has been recently renovated and feels polished without being fussy.
A full kitchen means breakfast at home, late-night snacks, whatever works.
The in-unit washer and dryer take one more thing off the list — spend the day at the beach, come back, and let the laundry sort itself out. Particularly useful if you’re traveling with kids.

Building amenities

The 6th floor amenity deck has a pool, hot tub, BBQ grills, and picnic tables.
For a group with a few days to settle in, the outdoor cooking setup is a practical option for evenings when staying in makes more sense than going out.

On the ground floor, Cream Pot — a well-regarded breakfast restaurant — and Maleko Coffee are both accessible without leaving the building.
For morning routines, having a café on-site is a quiet convenience that adds up over a longer stay.

A fitness center is available in the lobby for $5 per person, cash only.

Location & Access

Hawaiian Monarch sits at the entrance to Waikiki along the Ala Wai Canal, steps from Kalakaua Avenue — restaurants, shops, and nightlife are immediately accessible.
The Hilton Hawaiian Village is nearby.

Parking is available in the building at $45 per 24-hour period, with in-and-out privileges.
Note that the garage has a height clearance of approximately 6 feet, so oversized vehicles won’t fit. Payment is cash only.

Who Hawaiian Monarch is best for

Groups of 4–8 who need multiple bedrooms and don’t want to book separate hotel rooms. A 2-bedroom penthouse in this location is genuinely hard to find elsewhere in Waikiki.

Families with children, particularly on stays of a week or longer. The full kitchen, in-unit laundry, and pool make the day-to-day logistics of a family vacation considerably easier.

Travelers who’ve done Waikiki before and want a more residential experience rather than another hotel stay. The penthouse setup — high floor, full kitchen, washer/dryer — offers a different pace.

Groups looking for value at scale. Split across 4–8 people, the per-person cost of a 2- or 3-bedroom unit compares favorably to booking individual hotel rooms in Waikiki.
